How did the events of 2020 affect home preferences? Over the last few months, we’ve seen a tremendous influx of people moving from the city to the suburbs. Before 2020, people increasingly preferred cities over the suburbs, and studies prove that each new generation has been more and more likely to move to cities and stay there, even after getting married and having children.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the fact that urban areas are more crowded means greater exposure to current and potential future viruses. Shelter-in-place orders are harder to bear in an urban environment. By comparison, a home in the suburbs can offer more space, a backyard, and easier access to areas to exercise and be outdoors safely. Workspaces are also changing. Many people will continue to work from home, and the need for commuting will remain greatly reduced, so now, living further from the office is more appealing.
